🌸 April reading wrap up 🌸

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Sunrise on the Reaping
Two words. Emotional damage. Everything I was expecting and NOTHING I was expecting. If you liked Haymitch in the original trilogy, you will finish this book loving him, and wanting to wrap him up in a hug as you cry with him over bean and ham hock soup (ifykyk)🥣

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️The Hunger Games
Loved it even more as an adult than I did as a teenager. 🥹(Can you tell how much SOTR affected me? Had to do a re-read of the series to recover.)

⭐️⭐️⭐️ This Summer Will Be Different
I LOVED EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK besides the spice 🌶️ the perfect summer read with all the Anne of green gables references and Prince Edward Island vibes

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ People Pleaser
I am convinced @jingervuolo and I would be friends after reading becoming free indeed and people pleaser. Her and I are so alike! And this book was so powerful and encouraging as a fellow people pleaser. 🩷

Though the sibling bond between Eden and Parker takes center stage in To Belong, there are many other relationships that will tug at your heartstrings weaved throughout the story- including the quietly tender and tragic one between Parker and his Mama, Lilith. 💗

He was the baby she didn’t plan for who became the son she didn’t know she needed.

When I stumbled across this audio, I immediately thought of them and thought I’d create a little reel in celebration of querying this project again!! Yay!

✨To Belong follows the struggles of siblings Parker and Eden Douglas, who fight to preserve their bond and heal from the wounds that led them to join the army and enter foster care after losing their parents and being separated from their home in Vermillion, South Dakota. ✨

“Trouble with mice is…you always kill ‘em.” -Of Mice and Men 👨🏻‍🌾🌿🐁

One of my goals for this year was to read a few more classics. Checked one off my last list week by completing Steinbecks’ Of Mice and Men and wow, this Novella is short but packs a powerful punch.

Of Mice and Men is a parable about what it means to be human… Steinbeck’s story of George and Lennie’s dream of owning their own ranch during the Great Depression and the obstacles that stand in their way reveal the nature of mankind, friendship, loneliness, dreams and dignity.

This is the story of Lennie, the mentally handicapped and seemingly gentle (but not so gentle) giant who makes George’s dream (his companion and caretaker) of owning his own ranch worthwhile while also becoming the greatest obstacle to achieving it.

If you’ve read this story then you know the tragic twist it takes. I felt very hollow after finishing it, sitting in my chair with a cup of tea, in the quiet. I didn’t cry- but I wanted to. And it was an emotion deep in my chest that almost spoke more to me of the authors talent than words written to incite tears would have.

Read this story if you want to feel something- but know that something will be a tight knot in your chest and a hollow pit in your gut.

Has anyone seen any of the film adaptations of this novella? I’m interested, but also not sure I could stomach it.

wrote this poem a couple years ago, but its sentiments still ring true- just like the reminder each spring that joy follows sorrow, light follows dark, thaw follows freeze.

Hold onto hope. It’s real- and it’s coming.
