sunshine on skin
that was beaten and torn
a brow lifted to heaven
that had held a crown of thorns
Jesus steps out of the tomb
his chest rises and falls
he has drank the cup of wrath
he has sufferered once, for all
tears fall from his eyes
and he smiles towards the sky
because of what he’s done
the ones he loves will never die
we did it, he says
feeling once again
the communion with his father
that now will never end
a sigh comes from his lips
at last, the night is done!
it is finished, he has risen
death has died and love has won
more will suffer like him-
peter, james and john
but they too will rise again
and they will see the son of God
and one day on mercy’s shores
we will rise to meet the sun
just like Jesus we will smile
and we’ll be resurrected ones
our winters will have an ending
our pain will have a close
we will wake up to the morning
and all we’ll know is hope
