I wonder
if the redwood seed
knows before he’s tall
that one day in the forest
he’ll rise above them all
I wonder
if the redwood seed
ever cowers in the shade
as he stares up at the giants
that make him feel afraid
I wonder
how the redwood seed
would feel if he could know
that one day he’ll be one of them
he only needs to grow
I wonder
if the redwood seed
would doubt if he could see
but most of all I wonder
if the redwood seed
is me
Story behind the poem:
My little sister is an amazing landscape photographer and last year, her and I decided to collaborate and work on a project together called “Elevating Art” where I would write a poem based on a picture she’d taken! A poem to complement a picture and a picture to complement a poem! We’ve been sharing these collabs over on our Instagram profiles but I thought I’d post one here to give you a taste!
