He said that he would guide me,
with a mighty hand and outstretched arm.
No temptation will overtake you,
no evil do you harm.
“Where are you leading me, Father?”
I asked with wondering eyes
“On the journey of contentment,
so just wait here by my side.”
Here; not somewhere else

I was ready for adventure,
I was listening for the call
Yet he said, “Just rest in me,
let me be your all in all.
Its not your time to go,
don’t be anxious to move on
You must watch others run their race,
though yours has not begun.”
Here; not somewhere else

But there the grass is greener,
there the wildflowers grow
There I saw the light,
there I yearned to go!
“Don’t rush my little child,
don’t ache, don’t cry, don’t groan.
Don’t hunger for tomorrow;
today has beauty of its own.”
Here; not somewhere else

“Read my word and trust my heart,
I do not tarry, I am not slow.
I’ve prepared you for good works,
the seeds I’ve planted I will sow.
The waiting has a purpose;
there’s so many paths you’ll trod!
For now, just hope, have peace.
be still and know that I am God.”
Here; not somewhere else

“For until you’ve learned contentment,
until your faith is strong,
Until you endure with thanksgiving,
even when the wait is long,
Until your praise is constant,
no matter where I lead,
You must stay here my side
and learn that I am all you need.”
Here; not somewhere else

So I lifted my hands toward heaven,
to the maker of the stars
I surrendered my dreams and desires,
my hopes, my very heart.
“I’ll wait for your promise is sure,
you are good, your heart is kind,
Your ways are higher than my ways,
and I’ll trust your perfect time.”
Here; not somewhere else

And as I leaned into my Father,
he filled my empty cup.
He was my husband, my maker, my portion,
He was enough.
My fears began to shrink,
and the things of this earth grew dim,
I have no need for more,
when I have everything in Him.
Here; not somewhere else

So have faith my fellow pilgrim,
don’t fear and don’t lament
You’re not behind on the journey of life,
you’re just learning to be content.
The Father has a purpose,
hear the music and the bells!
The angels are cheering for you,
here; not somewhere else
